Meet Some of our Dancers

Arlene and Wayman
Arlene and Wayman met 18 years ago at our contra dance! Arlene wrote, “we have been doing contra dances all over the states because we fell in love with each other and with contra dance as well.” Arlene and Wayman now live full time in Boca Raton, Florida. They are still dancing and hope to attend one of our dances again in the near future. Arlene and Wayman think we have the best musicians. Our SNOCD board definitely agrees! Thank you, Arlene and Wayman, for sharing your beautiful story with us!

Eileen and Paul

The first time Paul and Eileen danced was in Eileen’s PE class which was ballroom and square dancing. The class was one person short of two squares and Eileen convinced Paul to come and dance in the class. Paul graduated college one year before Eileen and moved to work in California. Eileen continued dancing while finishing her education. She tried international folk dancing. Eileen said, “I was hooked from day one.”
Paul and Eileen married in May 1973 after her graduation and moved to Phoenix, Arizona. They danced with the Phoenix International Folk Dancers from 1973 to 1991. Eileen’s work brought them to Las Vegas. They danced with the Ethnic Express (folk dance club). One of the folk dancers (Norma Biggar), asked Eileen to come try contra and bring Paul.
Eileen and Paul dance folk dancing, square dancing, English Country dancing and Scottish Country dancing as well as contra dancing. Eventually Eileen was asked to call the dances. We are lucky to have Eileen serve as our caller and to have Paul and Eileen be a part of our dance family. Happy 50th Anniversary!
